This the article, in full, from our most recent January 2024 newsletter:

  • We got personal! We were able to reach hundreds of individuals through Metahab programs, courses, and presentations. Thanks to our fantastic team, we significantly increased our social media and linked-in presence. The message is out!

  • We supported our veterans. We created programs for Veterans Affairs Northern California Healthcare healthcare teams. It was an absolute privilege to bring Metahab programming to these dedicated clinicians and healthcare professionals who provide skillful and compassionate care to our veterans daily. We look forward to more work and collaboration with the VA in 2024!

  • We boosted our programs. We created a team of behavioral scientists and content experts to provide Metahab courses and programs to individuals, organizations, and institutions. Each expert was selected based on their research and clinical practice. Specialists in social media, applied behavioral science, neurology, neurophysiology, genetics, and advanced nursing practice brought their skills and insights, offering unique and up-to-date program content.

  • We worked with our community. With the help of an ANCHOR University Grant, Metahab collaborated with the Sacramento Family Justice Center, My Sister's House, and Sane-Sart Solano (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner & Response Team) to deliver Metahab, Strength-Based Workshops to women and men who experienced and were affected by domestic violence and trafficking with plans to continue that work in 2024.

  • We built partnerships. Through Sacramento State's Center for Health Practice Policy Research (CHPPR) we instituted Metahab at Sacramento State and in April partnered with them, creating and organizing the amazing conference The Science and Practice of Posttraumatic Growth: Recognizing Personal and Community Strength and Growth in the Aftermath of Trauma. We secured an excellent motivational speaker, former Olympian Charles Clark, developed content, chose a panel of experts and survivors who brought forth content and insights, helping attendees identify and recognize how to transform their adversity, challenge or trauma into personal strength, recognize their resilience and experience post-traumatic growth.

  • Provided programs to those on the front line of medical care. It was an honor to bring the message and practice of Metahab and posttraumatic growth to the emergency response clinicians at AlphaOne Ambulance Medical Service. Our team of experts provided mental fitness skills and specific wellness practices, helping them refresh and reclaim their purpose, recognize personal strengths, and boost the AlphaOne team.

MetaHabilitation: how to survive life after trauma
Author Joyce Mikal-Flynn, EdD, MSN, FNP

There is a lack of understanding that such events are unique, subjective and potentially transformative experiences (Smith, 2006; Karasu, 1999; Vash, 1994). Trauma and disease can disrupt people’s equilibrium or status quo (Livneh and Parker, 2005). Addressing this requires adjustment to biological homeostasis as well as an adjustment of patients’ self-concept. Research in this field – specifically qualitative research – has identified the importance of appreciating...
